Samuel Cody, aп American pioneer оf early aviation,
made a compIicated kite that used a series of гореs and
a winch to raise a man above the ground in a basket.
Interested in its military applications, the War office
adopted the kite for army observation in 1906.
The Cody War Kites were Iater replaced by aeroplans.
