Taj Mahal, Agra, India

Taj Mahal: Built by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan as a memorial to his queen Mumtaz Mahal, made out of white marble took 22 years to complete (1630-1652 AD).
The foundation of the present city of Agra is attributed to Raja Badal Singh, around 1475 AD. Its mention as Agraban also appeared in Mahabharata which suggests that it might have been on the outskirts of Mathura. The present city was first made its capitol by king Sikander Lodi. Agra gained its importance with the arrival of Mughals in 1526.
